My Success Story:
Jamaica ended up spending a lot longer at Houndhaven than we had first anticipated. She had a couple of medical problems that delayed her heartworm treatment, so by the time all was said and done she had been with us for almost four months. But all the volunteers were happy to keep her as long as it took because she is such a sweetheart. It was exactly that sweet personality that attracted her new mom and dad. They saw her picture on the website and drove almost two hours to meet her at the shelter. They knew immediately that she was the girl for them. They waited patiently over a month for the all-clear from the vet and to schedule the home visit. The visit was a huge success and Jamaica was so excited she could hardly contain herself. Her new home has an enormous fenced backyard of several acres with so many smells, she didn't know where to go first. But we knew it was the perfect home when she broke a lamp (she got caught in the cord) and stole a bag of treats off the table and mom didn't even bat an eye. We've already heard that she's settling in nicely and seems to be a very happy camper. We think that for her new family and for Jamaica, the wait was worth it. We'll miss you sweet girl!
