Meet the Houndhaven Dogs!

We are going to be creating a Memorial Garden at Houndhaven to honor our furry friends who have passed on.  There will be opportunities to donate and volunteer coming soon!  And also, you’ll be able to purchase a memorial stone to honor your own special pal.

To build the garden, we are in need of landscaping stones - the small sized kind that we will use instead of mulch.  If you or anyone you know has a connection to a landscaping company or home improvement store, please let us know if you think they might be willing to donate bags of stones.  You can email us at volunteerhh@gmail.com

I am good boy and I don’t belong here.  Some people were mean to me and I ended up in this shelter.  The people are here are very nice, but I have to share a kennel with a very noisy girl.  I don’t like her all that much, but I am nice to her, because that’s the kind of guy I am.  I would really love to have a family to play with me.  I love to play.  They have me a red rubber toy here and I LOVE it.  I carry it my mouth all the time. I never had such a great toy before.  It’s really great.  The noisy girl has one too and I tried to take her toy, but they told me I have to share, so I let it go.

Please, help me get out of here where I can have some peace and quiet and just play with my red toy.  Did I mention that I am house-trained and I walk really well on a leash - I never pull.

Lady loves toys so much that she recently convinved a volunteer to let her take this loofah dog on her walk. How darn cute is she??!  One of our volunteers had this to say about this sweet Lady: Lady is stunning.  She is a typical lab with lots of energy and loves everyone.  She is very smart and picks up things easily.  Lady finds fun in everything and is so enthusiastic about her walks.  A pine cone can be a prized possession for the whole walk.  She is such a happy girls and loves attention.

And I recently discovered that our dear Lady knows not only the SIT command, but she knows LIE DOWN and SHAKE.  All of this she will happily do for a treat!!

Sadie is a beautiful 9 year old yellow lab with a wonderful yellow coat and lovely brown eyes. She has the most amazing disposition. She is gentle and kind with everyone including children. She loves nothing more than to have her butt scratched. If you lean down and talk sweetly to her she will look into your eyes and give you a kiss. She is housebroken, will give one little bark to go in or out, walks very well on leash, not a puller, knows sit, down, shake (both paws), roll over, and can hold a treat on her nose and then catch it! While she is currently living with dogs she prefers people to dogs. She listens so well and understands what you ask of her and wants to please you. While she loves people and is very interested in knowing where you are, especially if you are in the kitchen, she is not a velcro dog. She will make the most amazing best friend and wants nothing more than her own home.

Major has made major improvements - he was so skinny when he arrived, but he has put on some weight and looks very healthy now!!  He has a healthy coat and is feeling great!  He loves to play rough and tumble with the little Bambi.  Major is playful and energetic and knows some commands. Major is full house broken, so he’s “move-in ready”!!  He is looking for a family to take him on good walks!

Hi there - I’m Morgan and this is Savannah.  She’s the brown one.  We’re at this shelter and it’s pretty nice here, but we’d really like to live in a house.  I like sleeping on a carpet and I’d like to have a family.  I’m kind of lazy and I like to just lay around, so I promise I won’t be too much of a bother.  We both know a bunch of commands and we are both full-bred.  We’ve been here for more than 6 months and Savannah is driving me a little nuts.  Don’t get me wrong - I don’t really want to be separated from her, but she needs more attention than I can give her - so a family would really help me out.  Savannah has a lot of energy - she’s younger than I am and will be happy to play games with you.  We’re usually at Petsmart Saturdays, so come by and say hi!

Addie is playful and energetic.  She gets along well with other dogs - her current playmates are Major, Kendall, and Bambi. She knows some commands and is ready for a loving home!!

Look at this cutie patootie!!  Keller is having surgery for her hip dysplasia.  These photos were taken last weekend when I was at the shelter - after she had gone for two walks that morning, eaten breakfast, and was pooped!!  She was sprawled out in her kennel and came over for me to rub her belly.  This girl is my new Houndhaven favorite - just as sweet as can be!

Now if this isn’t the cutest little baby face ever, then I don’t know what is!!
