Raven - an injury long ago?

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Raven’s front left leg is a little off - it looks like maybe she had an injury (perhaps hit by a vehivle?) when she was younger and it healed improperly.  It makes her look clumsy when she runs, but it certainly doesn’t slow her down even for a second.  She is so affectionate and loving.  She will sit when you tell her too, but mostly she is just too excited to sit for long.  She clearly craves attention and companionship and would be best suited for a household with another dog.  If you think you can give Raven the loving home she needs, fill out the adoption application online.

Wag the Dog

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

Upon seeing Raven for the first time, one of our volunteers said, “Talk about a tail wagging the dog!”  Raven’s entire body shakes when she wags her tail - she is full of excitement.  She knows how to sit, but pulls a lot on the leash.  She is beautiful and loving.  She will be a great addition to any home!

Zack be nimble, Zack be quick

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Zack is a good sized dog - probably average for a labrador, but he seems particularly well-built and muscular to me.  He knows how to walk and heel on a leash.  He has a lot of energy and definitely needs a home with a yard where he can run and play - or an owner who wants to take him jogging or take him to the dog park a lot.  Zack will be a good watch dog, too!  Zack will have a while before he can be adopted because he has to undergo heartworm treatment.  But, put in your application now - because he is sure to be adopted quickly as soon as he is ready!

Calm Casey

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Casey is unbelievably calm.  She is very mellow and laid back and attractive (although slightly chubby).  While 4 other dogs were barking, whining, and making all kinds of racket, Casey did not make a peep.  She walks very well on a leash and does not jump up on you.  If you want a dog that won’t need any training - just love and attention - she is the one for you!

Buddy - not so tubby anymore

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Buddy is doing very well!  I noticed today that his diet and exercise have really started paying off; his abdomen is slimming down and he is starting to get a nice shape back.  (If only I could stick to a regime this well - perhaps I would see the same results.)  Buddy’s energy is great - he gets so excited over the little grasshoppers and other jumping insects.  If you have a fenced yard and you decide to adopt buddy, he won’t even need toys  - he will be entertained for hour by bugs alone : )  What a fun dog he is!

Champ - Deserving of his name

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

I only met Champ once so far.  But what a good boy!  He was somewhat shy and unbelievably well-behaved.  Often when a dog arrives at the shelter, it might take him a while to settle down and behave in this new, unfamiliar place.  But this guy was just so well-behaved.  Clearly he has been well-trained.  Like any true retriever, he did get pretty excited about some birds and was ready to chase.  But because of his embedded training, he didn’t pull or drag me on the leash in a selfish attempt to chase the birds.  If you want a dog who will need LOTS of love and no training, this is the guy for you.

This was Nala desperate for belly rubbing and attention.  Isn’t she just the cutest thing you have ever seen?

Darling Diva

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Diva is a sweet girl. The time I spent with her was just as she arrived at Petsmart for the first time, so she was a bit stressed. However, for 4 hours she was very sweet and social. She walked very well and at times tried to carry her leash, as if  to walk herself. She has more energy than I would have thought and does not look 8 years old at all. She has a beautiful coat and wonderful teeth! This poor girl is longing for a forever home and I am confident she will make the perfect addition to any home.

Buddy - a good boy

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Buddy is doing very well  He has lost some weight already and maintains good energy.  He is doing much better on a leash than he was when he arrived.  He sits on command and is well-behaved.  Buddy is undergoing treatment now for heartworm, which means he has to stay calm.  He can go for walks but is not supposed to be running and jumping - this is not easy for a lot of dogs, but Buddy is handling it pretty well.  Buddy is generally just a good boy.  He seems to be okay with other dogs and would probably be a great family dog.

Champ

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Champ is a little chubby and also somewhat shy.  He walks well on a leash.  He gets very excited by all the fun smells on a walk.  My own dog gets so excited at the dog park that he starts foaming at the mouth, a behavior I thought exclusive to my crazy dog.  But Champ does the same!  It’s the funniest thing!  He gets excited and doesn’t jump or go crazy, he just sniffs EVERYTHING and starts foaming at the mouth - the way, you or I might salivate at the site of a chocolate cake.  Champ is well-behaved and very good looking.  He doesn’t seem to like his diet, but he needs to lose weight.  If you want a great Golden Retreiver and can keep Champ on a disciplined schedule of eating, he is a terrific dog!
