Casey — rare find

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

As a long time volunteer of Houndhaven I have seen my share of great dogs find their way in and out of Houndhaven. And like people, dogs are special for different reasons. It could be the dog is smart, silly, beautiful, or catches your eye. The one question I hear over and over is “how old”. As I sat at PetSmart today with Casey, and watched everyone gravitate to Boots and Kaiser, I kept thinking these people are missing out. Really missing one of the best dogs due to her age. Her age…she is not old, she is only 7 not 12. She has plenty of wonderful years and I watched as people looked away due to her age. One number and they never asked more about her. She has so much about her that is wonderful, so much so I actually thought of asking my husband if 5 dogs was too many! Casey is sweet, gives wonderful kisses, knows her manners, is beautiful, loyal and mellow. She loves to walk and get belly rubs. She asks for nothing, is not demanding. I could not find one negative thing about her. I know, like all dogs at Houndhaven, her forever home is out there. If you are looking for a rare find and don’t mind a mature girl, Casey just may be your girl!

Scotty and Tyler - brothers are we

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

WOW!  Scotty is gorgeous.  He is big, slim, and handsome.  His freckles are striking.  If I was a girl dog, I think I would have a crush on this guy!

Then there is little Tyler - he hails from the same mother as Scotty but Tyler is much younger.  He is probably one of the cutest dogs I have ever seen.  He is suffering from some acne right now, but that does not put an end to the cuteness.  And boy does he have huge paws.  His front paws are almost as big as his head, seriously.  If they are any indication, he is going to be a big, handsome boy like his brother Scotty.

Volunteers Needed - Must Love Dogs

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Houndhaven is packed!  As volunteers, we keep posted through the website in the same way that prospectuve owners do - like you!  I am out of town and have been checking the website everyday! I have to warn you - if you want to adopt Tidbit, you might have to put up a fight - with me!!  Wow, he sure is a cutie pie!!  If you love dogs and want to do more than just look at their cute faces online, please think about volunteering!  We need all the help we can get - weekdays, weekends, daytime, evenings, afternoons.  If you want to help but are not sure you can handle the dogs, we still want your help - you can do laundry, wash the dog dishes, or clean the kennels.  Please volunteer - the dogs need you!!

If you are interested in helping, you can email us at houndhaveninc@aol.com

Kaiser - smarter than he looks

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Kaiser is definitely one of the new volunteer favorites.  He is well-behaved and walks great on a leash.  I arrived at the shelter today and he was running loose inside the kennel area - he had somehow figured out how to let himself out of his kennel.  He’s not the first dog to do this, but I figured he was too small to reach the latch.  Not so much.  He is loving and affectionate.  If you get down to his level, you should fully expect to get attacked with kisses and hugs.  Yes, hugs.  He thros his front paws on you and around you as if he is giving hugs.  And you can help but hug him back. If you are thinking of adopting Kaiser, just be warned that all of the volunteers are going to want regular updates on this sweet pea!
