Hunk of Love–Porter

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

I had the pleasure of spending my saturday afternoon showing this boy off at Petsmart. While people seemed shocked at his size, Porter took it all in stride. While tipping the scales at 100 pounds, he is a gentle giant. He greets everyone the same way, with a big tail wag and if he gets super excited his whole back half shakes. He will speak to you as well and look you in the eye until you figure out what he wants, usually it is to walk. He is packed full of personality and loves people. He didn’t appear bothered by other dogs that walked by and was well behaved. If you are looking for a sweet boy, check out Porter.

Calm Kaiser

Monday, July 14th, 2008

I am starting to think Kaiser is getting a bad rap because of his looks.  I think he is the cutest thing I have ever seen, but it seems some people might be put off.  He it NOT a pitt bull!!  Kaiser is a boxer, bulldog mix, but he has the sweet personality of a labrador.  I have known several boxers and they weren’t very bright dogs.  Well, that certainly is not the case with the whole breed because Kaiser is definitely smart.  He is very affectionate and loving, but he doesn’t have that sometimes hyper temperament of a boxer.  He defintely loves to run and play, but he walks well on leash and won’t pull you the way some dogs do.  Kaiser deserves the best home, so if you think you can give that to him, fill out an application and come by to meet him at Petsmart.

Scotty - a puppy in disguise?

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Scotty doesn’t look like a puppy, but he is not even 1 year old yet.  He’s fairly large, but quite slim - perhaps he just hasn’t grown into his size yet!  I have discovered Scotty chewing his bed on two occasions, so if you are thinking of adopting him, you will need a large crate to keep him when you are not home.  I imagine his chewing phase will pass like it does with all puppies, but you may have to be patient.  What’s great about Scotty - despite his young age - he seems to be fully house broken (no accidents inside the shelter so far) and he walks well on a leash.  Scotty is very sweet and like most dogs, needs lots of affection.  Scotty likes to be outdoors, so you will have to take him to the dog park and for lots of long walks.  Scotty is a sweet, good dog and deserves a wonderful family.  If you want to get to know him, come see him at Petsmart and fill out an adoption application to be considered for Scotty!!

Callie - a lone wolf

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Poor Callie - it’s tough to lose your owner, she must be sad and confused.  But she doesn’t let it show!!  Callie came to Houndhaven and took over - she is a dominant dog and has quickly shown everyone who is boss!  She seems to be housebroken and knows some commands.  She is an older dog, but she has lots of energy for running and playing.  And one of the great benefits of older dogs - they are already trained and are well paste the chewing phase!  Callie has a beautiful, soft, light tan coat.  And she howls like a wolf - to get attention.  I think it’s absolutely hysterical because I have never owned a dog that does that.  It cracks me up every time I hear her.   Callie has been through some tough times with being displaced, so she needs someone who will love and care for her forever.

Kaiser

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Kaiser is such a good-natured dog.  Sure, he likes to chase cats, but what dog doesn’t?  Kaiser plays well with other dogs.  We even trust him to be with some of the smaller ones, like Tidbit and Layla, because he is gentle and non-aggressive in play.  He loves to run, so it would be great if you have a fenced in yard or could take him to the dog park.  Some people think he is cute, but in an ugly kind of way.  We think he is adorable!  He is well-behaved, knows some basic commands, and seems to be house trained.  If you are interested in adopting Kaiser, come see him at Petsmart and fill out an adoption application!
