the 4 stooges - Nilla, BJ, Polly, and Charity

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

It’s Thanksgiving morning and I let these 4 girls out in one of the yards.  Not long after, I find they have tipped over their bucket of drinking water and are playing with it in the mud.  I refill their bucket and move it out of the dirt.  30 minutes later, I again find that they have decided to use it as a toy and they are covered in mud.  Finally, I use a latch hook to attach the bucket to a fence so they cannot knock it over and play soccer with it.   I proceed to clean the inside kennels, which takes a while.  When I emerge from inside, I discover the 4 stooges have found a way to  get the hose off it’s reel - which is perched about 6 feet up on the wall.  I guess the hose was even more interestesting than the water bucket.  They have dragged it about 15 feet out and chewed off half the handle.  I am thankful on this holiday that these dogs are healthy enough to make a mess and drive me a bit nuts.  And I was even more thankful to have other volunteers to help me clean up the dogs before putting them back in their kennels for the morning.

Polly needed to check out the camera.

Ladybug dunked her entire snout in the “Bobbing for Tennis Balls” bucket.  She didn’t get any balls, but she was happy nonetheless.  Here, she’s licking her chops of the water.

Goldy is the newest Houndhaven dog!

Charity smiled for the photo!

Homecoming Pictures

Here are some snapshots of the adoptable dogs at our annual Homecoming event.

Cindy has hematomas in her ears, so she has to wear a hat to keep her ears down so they will heal.

BJ posed when I said I needed a picture. How cute! Isn’t she gorgeous?!

Lady hardly ever stays still enough for a photo.  She’s still a wiggle worm pup!

Olive

I found this cutie in the middle of a Highway interchange ramp in Orlando.  She was with a large dog.  She appears young - maybe 4 months or so.  Once we have an update after her vet visit, we’ll let you know when she will be ready for adoption.

Ladybug

Just a few pictures - getting her belly rubbed and posing for a photo.  Ladybug is definitely my favorite.  You just kind of fall in love with some dogs and she’s one of those!  I keep telling my boyfriend that she should come home with us - but he says that I say that about a different dog every other month.  Ah, such is the life of a Houndhaven volunteer.

Anyway, just a few tidbits on Ladybug - she walks well on a leash, does not pull at all.  She knows how to sit, loves to get her belly rubbed.  Her belly was a little saggy from having pups, but she is already starting to get her girlish figure back!  She is going through heartworm treatment now, so she’ll be ready in a few more weeks to go to a new home!

Bogey Boy

As a Houndhaven volunteer you constantly fall in and out of love with dogs. It is the gift of volunteering. And after 7 years I have fallen for my share of dogs. Last saturday however, I fell hook, line and sinker in love with Bogey. Bogey is incredibly handsome and sweet beyond belief. He will lay his head in your lap and let you love on him all you want. He also tried to fit his entire body on my lap but settled for his front half.  He walks well on a leash…gentle and no pulling. He is a quiet boy with the most beautiful eyes. He is going to make a wonderful pet and is ready now for his FOREVER family.
