Beau

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Beau is the French word for handsome.  And that is the perfect word to describe this dog.  He is gorgeous.  He’s a medium sized chocolate lab with a gorgeous shiny coat.  He’s more like a milk chocolate color than dark chocolate.  He is happy, walks well on a leash, is house broken, and loves attention.  He knows how to sit but would prefer to go for a long walk.

Bradford update

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Bradford is slowly gaining weight - his hip bones are not quite as visible.  And his coat is starting to get its luster back.  He is having a tough time medically - he hasn’t been feeling well.  Poor sweet guy.

Bradford

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Bradford had been living under a porch, so you can see here that he is skin and bones!  You can see and feel every rib in his body and his hip bones stick out.  He doesn’t seem to know it - he has a happy disposition.  (Although, he was not happy about me taking pictures!).  We are feeding him hearty servings to try and help him gain weight and be a healthy dog again.  He has lots of energy and hates to get his ear medicines. Then again, who LIKES to get medicine put in their ears?  Bradford seems to be housebroken and walks well on a leash - so he probably had owners at some point in his life.  Who knows if was dumped, left behind, or ran away.  But somehow, we ended up with this sweet boy and we couldn’t be happier!

“Are you there, God? It’s me Honey!”

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Dear God,

My name is Honey, you probably know me - I am a rescued dog at Houndhaven.  I have been a here a long time and I am really ready for a permanent family.  I am a good girl and I don’t know why no one has picked me yet.  I have a lot of energy and love to give.  I like to run and jump and play.  Can you please help me find a family who will let me do lots of running?

Thanks, God, I appreciate your help.

Jamaica

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Jamaica is a sweet, wonderful dog.  She seems to be fully house-trained and has not had any accidents at Houndhaven.  She sits for treats and can even catch them out of the air.   Jamaica has to go through treatment for heartworms, but she’ll be ready in 2010 for a new family.

Westin

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Westin is a big boy with lots of energy.  He is still learning how to walk properly on a leash - he likes to pull.  He seems to be housebroken and hasn’t had accidents here at the shelter.  He doesn’t like to get his ears cleaned - because it requires being still, something he doesn’t enjoy.  Westin has the cutest face with a wrinkly forehead - maybe a mastiff mix.  Mastiff’s can be quite lazy and mellow - so those must mot be the dominant traits, because Westin is not lasy at all. He has good energy and is very playful.  Westin is still a puppt - not even 1 year old - so he is not too old to learn some commands.  He will sit for a treat!  Westin has lots of love to give and would like it if you play with him a lot - he loves toys, too.

Lewis & Clark

Friday, January 1st, 2010

These handsome boys are still puppies, so they have a lot of energy and love to play. They are still working on house training and they are doing well with it.  They were found on the streets so you have to be patient with them.  These boys have long coats, so you will have to keep up with the grooming.  They are small dogs - each weighs maybe 30 pounds or so. They won’t get much bigger since they appear to be Cocker Spaniels.  These guys are happy as can be and are ready for a good home.  Because they are small dogs, they do not require a large home or fenced yard, but they are puppies and will need lots of play and exercise. Come meet these cuties at Petsmart or Woofgang Bakery in Dr.Phillips. How do you like Lewis’s pose with his bone hanging out like a cigar - he’s funny!
