In Memoriam - Our Beloved Buster

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

We are very sad to report that we had to say goodbye to Buster today. Due to problems with his liver that manifested a few weeks after we got him, Buster was very sick. He rallied for a bit, and we were hopeful that we could help him, but ultimately we lost the battle.  We take comfort in the fact that we believe we will see Buster again in
Heaven and that he will have all the toys he wants in the meantime.

Duke

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Sweet Duke is enjoying life as a dog - his heart condition has improved with medication, so he is now allowed to run and play in the fenced yards with other dogs.  This shy dog has proved to be the dominant one amongst his playmates - probably because they are all younger pups who look up to him (literally).  He’s had to take on a leading role in this pack.  Duke has never been formally trained, so he could use some help because he likes to chew and jump.  But he does know how to SIT and he is house broken (no accidents at the shelter.) Duke is still a little leary of using his doggie door at the shelter and isn’t easily coaxed.  He eats well, has lots of energy, and is still sometimes on the shy side.  You can meet Duke when we bring him to Petsmart on the weekend.

Bradford update

Friday, February 12th, 2010
“Beautiful boy, lively, sweet, follows me like a shadow, just wants to be loved” is how Bradford’s foster mom described him.  He is undergoing heartworm treatment, so he is in a home where there is calm.  It is very dangerous for dogs going through this treatment to get excited, stressed, or agitated - their hearts, literally, need to stay calm.  they are not allowed to be running or jumping or playing.  that can be hard on a dog, but Bradford is doing very well. His family is also working to get him to gain weight.  HH’s founder has given him several special baths, so his coat is stunning - he is as soft a as a bunny rabbit and his coat is shiny and healthy now!

Turner

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

What a cutie pie!  This guy is all alone with no one to play with at Houndhaven.  His siblings have been adopted and he is too little to play with the big dogs at the shelter.  Turner is still a puppy, so he will need LOTS of attention.  He is not yet housebroken and loves to chew things - as one might expect of a puppy.  His coat is a beautiful dark golden coat colored caramel.  It’s too soon to tell how big he will be.
