Buddy is doing very well! I noticed today that his diet and exercise have really started paying off; his abdomen is slimming down and he is starting to get a nice shape back. (If only I could stick to a regime this well - perhaps I would see the same results.) Buddy’s energy is great - he gets so excited over the little grasshoppers and other jumping insects. If you have a fenced yard and you decide to adopt buddy, he won’t even need toys - he will be entertained for hour by bugs alone : ) What a fun dog he is!

I only met Champ once so far. But what a good boy! He was somewhat shy and unbelievably well-behaved. Often when a dog arrives at the shelter, it might take him a while to settle down and behave in this new, unfamiliar place. But this guy was just so well-behaved. Clearly he has been well-trained. Like any true retriever, he did get pretty excited about some birds and was ready to chase. But because of his embedded training, he didn’t pull or drag me on the leash in a selfish attempt to chase the birds. If you want a dog who will need LOTS of love and no training, this is the guy for you.

This was Nala desperate for belly rubbing and attention. Isn’t she just the cutest thing you have ever seen?

Diva is a sweet girl. The time I spent with her was just as she arrived at Petsmart for the first time, so she was a bit stressed. However, for 4 hours she was very sweet and social. She walked very well and at times tried to carry her leash, as if to walk herself. She has more energy than I would have thought and does not look 8 years old at all. She has a beautiful coat and wonderful teeth! This poor girl is longing for a forever home and I am confident she will make the perfect addition to any home.

Buddy is doing very well He has lost some weight already and maintains good energy. He is doing much better on a leash than he was when he arrived. He sits on command and is well-behaved. Buddy is undergoing treatment now for heartworm, which means he has to stay calm. He can go for walks but is not supposed to be running and jumping - this is not easy for a lot of dogs, but Buddy is handling it pretty well. Buddy is generally just a good boy. He seems to be okay with other dogs and would probably be a great family dog.

Champ is a little chubby and also somewhat shy. He walks well on a leash. He gets very excited by all the fun smells on a walk. My own dog gets so excited at the dog park that he starts foaming at the mouth, a behavior I thought exclusive to my crazy dog. But Champ does the same! It’s the funniest thing! He gets excited and doesn’t jump or go crazy, he just sniffs EVERYTHING and starts foaming at the mouth - the way, you or I might salivate at the site of a chocolate cake. Champ is well-behaved and very good looking. He doesn’t seem to like his diet, but he needs to lose weight. If you want a great Golden Retreiver and can keep Champ on a disciplined schedule of eating, he is a terrific dog!

Duncan is so darn cute, I wanted to take him home. He still has a puppy face and he is affectionate like a puppy. Duncan is skinny and I guess needs to gain some weight. He walks on a leash like he has been doing it his whole life. In fact, he was so affectionate and needy, he didn’t leave my side - he walked pressed up against my leg almost the whole time. He may be a little nervous or unsure - I don’t know, but boy is he adorable! He has freckles and a little bit of fluff at the end of his tail. He also responds to the sit command. Duncan doesn’t seem to be a dominant dog, so he might do well in a home with a more dominant dog whol can help Duncan build some confidence. Duncan is so sweet - he seemed to want to play as he romped around me like a puppy. If you want a dog who will be affectionate and loving, Duncan is the guy for you!

Nala, as evidenced by her skinny little body, is in need of a human companion. All she wanted was to to have her head and belly rubbed. She is slightly skittish and was a bit unnerved by loud noices, such as the door shutting. At first, she did not want to walk on the leash - she was jumping as if to say, “Look at me! Look at me! Pet me! Pet me!” But after a while, she walked just fine on the leash. She knows how to sit, though it quickly turned into laying down to get her belly rubbed. Nala is affectionate and not afraid to tell you she needs attention. She makes these sweet, soft whining noises and has the most beautiful face. She has a while before she is ready to be adopted, but when it’s time, she is going to make someone very happy!

Charlie looks like he has some coon hound in his ancestry - he has a long, lean figure and long, skinyn legs! For me, Charlie refused to walk on a leash like a normal dog - he was all over the place. But Brian, a new volunteer, must have Dog Whisperer powers because he had Charlie walking on a leash like an old pro. Charlie did respond to commands, which leads me to believe he has attended trainign classes, but just needs someone to remind him of what he learned. Charlie has great energy,. but doesn’t jump all over you. If you want a happy, good dog, Charlie might be a good choice!

I met Marianne for the first time today and what a fiesty little girl! She thinks she is 100 lb dog even though she only stands about 4 inches off the ground. Charlie - a big guy - was making all kinds of noise in the kennel next door and she got irritated and growled right back! She sure thinks she is tough! She is very sweet and definitely wants to give kisses. She walks well on a leash and seems pretty well-behaved. She did sneak out through my legs at one point - little devil! So, you’ll have to keep an eye on her! She doesn’t seem to love the food at Hound Haven, so she may have been a bit spoiled in the past and not used to dry dog food : )
