Adoptable Dogs

Please note:

If a dog was brought to the shelter as a stray, we adhere to the following policy regarding returning the dog to a party claiming to own it.  We have the following policy regarding stray intakes:

The owner of such dog may reclaim by:
1. emailing houndhaveninc@aol.com within 5 days of the date the dog came to Houndhaven,
2. identifying the dog accurately,
3. providing proof of ownership,
4. promptly arranging a mutually agreed upon time to pickup the dog,
5. coming to pick up the dog at the scheduled time, and
6. signing a form acknowledging ownership and indemnifying Houndhaven in the event another party claims ownership.

BAILEY

Precious female yellow lab Bailey is a 4 year old adult. She was surrendered by her owner who told us Bailey loves the baby pool and splashing in a big water bowl. She currently weighs 98 lbs. and we are working on getting her down to a bikini-ready weight for her days at the pool. Bailey lived with and got along with small dogs in her previous home. She’s very loving, super sweet and friendly to people. She’s already spayed. Bailey also walks well on a leash.

GRIZZLY

Grizzly’s owner passed away and with no one to take care of him, he was surrendered to our vet. Very sad circumstances for this sweet boy, but he is now at Houndhaven and our goal is to find him a home where he will be able to live a great life. Grizzly is a senior chocolate lab (estimate: 14 years old). Griz doesn’t look or act his age so we aren’t sure if the family had accurate information regarding his age. He’s still curious about life and has more living to do, and he has a handsome sugar face. Griz weighs 72 lbs. and tested negative for heartworms. He’s on monthly heartworm prevention and we’ve brought him up to date on vaccines.

DALTON

Dalton LOVES to snuggle and we love to snuggle with him! But it’s just not the same as Dalton having a real home where he can be a cuddly lap dog with his very own humans. He is the sweetest black lab mix pup and is just 8 months old. Dalton loves everyone. His previous owner turned Dalton in to animal control along with other dogs. He’s already altered and currently weighs 45 lbs. Dalton would also love a family that is active and will play with him. To adopt this love bug, please review our policies and submit an application.

LULU

Lulu is an adorable female black lab who is a young adult (approximately 1 year 5 months old).  She’s an excellent car rider.  Lulu would be a great companion for someone who likes to travel with their dog.  Her previous owner surrendered her to animal control.  Like Joe, one of our other residents, Lulu was also left outside at her previous home.  They did say she is dog friendly and friendly with men, women and children alike.  Lulu has a sweetness about her which makes her super lovable.  She is heartworm negative and will be spayed very soon.  Lulu weighs about 54 lbs.

JOE

Joe is a long-legged, gorgeous yellow lab mix. While he was shy when he first came to the shelter, he is blossoming in the short time he has been with us and is a happy, friendly boy. Joe was turned in to an animal control in central Florida by his previous owner. He was on his own and left outside most of the time at his former home. Joe is a young adult, 3 years old, weighs 60 lbs. and will be neutered soon. We’ve promised him we’ll help him find a home where he will live indoors and be a true member of his family.

HIGGINS

Higgins is a whole 12 lbs. of terrier cuteness. Unfortunately, this little guy has been let down by humans in the past and hasn’t been taken care of which resulted in him being hit by a car and sustaining a broken left rear leg and a dislocated right hip. He’s recuperating from surgery to repair his broken leg. In addition to his injuries, he had worms, fleas, and tested positive for heartworms. He’s been very brave through this, still wags his tail and manages to roll over for the belly rubs he loves. Higgins has been neutered. He is a young adult (estimate of age is 3 years old). He will still have to have surgery on his dislocated hip and go through heartworm treatment, so it will be a while before he’s ready to be placed in a home. We’ll keep you posted as to when adorable little Higgins will be available for adoption. In the meantime, any donations to help with his medical bills would be much appreciated.

NELLIE

Super sweet Nellie is a female black lab mix. She was a stray found by animal control in northwest Florida so we don’t have any history on her, but she has been a well behaved girl who loves people since she arrived at the shelter. She has a very sweet face and soaks up all the attention we give her. Sometimes she even prefers cuddles over treats. We will have Nellie spayed shortly and we have already brought her up to date on vaccines, started her on monthly heartworm prevention and have had her microchipped. She’s heartworm negative. Nellie weighs 57 lbs. is in our adult category (dogs that are 5-8 years old). Our best estimate is that she’s approximately 5-6 years old.

He weighs 64 lbs and tested negative for heartworms. He will be scheduled to be neutered soon. He came from the Panhandle area of Florida and was a stray before coming to Houndhaven. Nigel is waiting for someone to open their heart and give him the chance to become a loyal, faithful companion for life. To adopt Nigel, please review our policies and submit an application.

HAZEL

Hazel really enjoys going for a walk and would love a family who would take her for daily walks and then come home to relax on the sofa with her. Sweet Hazel is just the best girl. She’s quiet, well behaved, and housebroken. She knows commands (sit, give paw, roll over). She doesn’t complain when we put medicine in her ears or she gets a bath. Hazel’s previous owners dropped her off at someone’s house and due to a change in circumstances never came back for her. The kind person who took her in brought her to Houndhaven to get the proper vet care for her and to find her a great home. She told us Hazel is good with children and adults, other dogs and cats. Hazel has an ear infection and has lost hair due to a flea allergy. We’re treating those and she will soon be just as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. Hazel is a female chocolate lab, weighs 56 lbs., has tested negative for heartworms and will be spayed soon. She is in our adult category (we estimate that she is about 7 years old).

PIPPY

Pippy & Poppy are sweet, sweet eleven month old puppies. They’re happy and eager to please. Pippy & Poppy are black lab sisters and were an owner turn-in. Their first owner gave them to a friend who decided they were too much for him. They love to play and are energetic girls. Pippy weighs 52 lbs. currently and Poppy weighs 58 lbs. Both have tested negative for heartworms and we have had them spayed. They can be adopted separately. Active families will be the best match for them. If you would like to adopt Pippy, please review our policies and submit an application.  (Update:  Poppy has been adopted.)

ABBY

ABBY BEFORE LOSING 38 POUNDS

ABBY AFTER LOSING 38 POUNDS!

Abby’s previous family turned her in because they couldn’t give her the time and attention they knew she deserved. Abby is a female yellow lab. She is an adult dog (approximately five years old), spayed and heartworm negative.  She weighs 60 lbs. (down from 98 lbs.!) and has met her weight loss goal at Houndhaven!  She would do best in a home with no other dogs because her vision isn’t the best, and she gets defensive when other dogs are around.  She is as sweet as anything with people, however, and will kiss your chin to thank you for giving her attention.  We have already had the cataract caused by being obese removed from her right eye and hope to be able to have the left eye cataract removed shortly.  Abby has been a trooper through it all and is enjoying getting to see better!

ARLENE & CARMELLA

Arlene and Carmella have been together their entire lives. They were surrendered to animal control by their owner who was moving and couldn’t take them. They love spending time together. They’re good-natured sweet girls. Both are adults: Arlene (yellow lab) is 7 years old and weighs 54 lbs. Carmella (chocolate lab) is 8 years old and weighs 65 lbs. They’re both spayed and appear to be housebroken. It will make such a difference in their lives if someone could open their heart and provide them with a great home together.
