Adoptable Dogs

Please note:

If a dog was brought to the shelter as a stray, we adhere to the following policy regarding returning the dog to a party claiming to own it.  We have the following policy regarding stray intakes:

The owner of such dog may reclaim by:
1. emailing houndhaveninc@aol.com within 5 days of the date the dog came to Houndhaven,
2. identifying the dog accurately,
3. providing proof of ownership,
4. promptly arranging a mutually agreed upon time to pickup the dog,
5. coming to pick up the dog at the scheduled time, and
6. signing a form acknowledging ownership and indemnifying Houndhaven in the event another party claims ownership.
MAMBO
Mambo is a 9 year old golden retriever who was surrendered because the owner lost her home.   He was born 11/2/09 and lived with the same owner until his surrender.  He loves playing with tennis balls and sock toys.  He likes to offer his paw and to snuggle.  He is potty trained and loves walks.  When he was a puppy he got to go to the beach and liked it.  If you say “Are you hungry?”, Mambo will dance around in a circle as his way of saying YES!  He loves kids and gets along with every animal he has encountered.  He is currently battling an ear infection, but we are hoping to have that cleared up soon.  Otherwise, he seems to be a healthy boy who just needs a new home and family to love!

COOPER, DUKE, JAKE, LUKE, MAX, MILLIE, WILLIE, WILLOW ANN

These cuties are all littermates–a total of eight adorable yellow lab puppies that we got from an accidental breeding (Waldo has been adopted).  They are 11 weeks old (born March 28, 2019) and range from 13-17 pounds.  They are all happy-go-lucky pups who love each other and love human interaction as well.  There are two females (Millie and Willow Ann) and six males (Cooper, Duke, Max, Jake, Luke, Willie).  Their tails never stop wagging!  If you have the time and patience to train a puppy (ie, lost sleep, potty accidents, chewing anything within reach), review our adoption policies to see if you might be able to adopt one of these little darlings.  They can only be expected to hold their urine about an hour per every month of age, so you would need to make arrangements for them to get outside that often (ie, every three hours right now).

LIBBY

Sweet Libby loves affection and she literally melts at your feet when you start to pet her. She is a 3-4 year old female black lab mix(in our young adult category). She tested negative for heartworms and weighs approximately 55 lbs. Libby needs to be in a home where there are no cats, chickens or small farm animals, please, as she is not a fan—which is the reason her previous owners surrendered her to animal control.  She gets along with other dogs though and loves to play with her pals at HH.   A family who will love her forever is what Libby needs.

ABBY

ABBY BEFORE LOSING 38 POUNDS

ABBY AFTER LOSING 38 POUNDS!

Abby’s previous family turned her in because they couldn’t give her the time and attention they knew she deserved. Abby is a female yellow lab. She is an adult dog (approximately five years old), spayed and heartworm negative.  She weighs 60 lbs. (down from 98 lbs.!) and has met her weight loss goal at Houndhaven!  She would do best in a home with no other dogs because her vision isn’t the best, and she gets defensive when other dogs are around.  She is as sweet as anything with people, however, and will kiss your chin to thank you for giving her attention.  We have already had the cataract caused by being obese removed from her right eye and hope to be able to have the left eye cataract removed shortly.  Abby has been a trooper through it all and is enjoying getting to see better!

DIXIE GRACE

Dixie Grace is a super sweet female chocolate lab mix. Her previous owner turned her in because they said she climbed fences but she has not done that since she’s been at Houndhaven. Dixie is friendly to everyone, doesn’t mess in her kennel and is spayed. Dixie loves to play with her pals in the HH yards. She can’t get enough hugs and leans against you for more. Dixie is estimated to be 3 years old (young adult category). This darling girl weighs 67 lbs. and will be a loving dog for a lucky family.

ARLENE & CARMELLA

Arlene and Carmella have been together their entire lives. They were surrendered to animal control by their owner who was moving and couldn’t take them. They love spending time together. They’re good-natured sweet girls. Both are adults: Arlene (yellow lab) is 7 years old and weighs 54 lbs. Carmella (chocolate lab) is 8 years old and weighs 65 lbs. They’re both spayed and appear to be housebroken. It will make such a difference in their lives if someone could open their heart and provide them with a great home together.

NITRO

Nitro just wants to be your buddy. He’s an adult yellow lab and is six years old. He was going to be a working dog with the Department of Homeland Security, but he wanted to play not work. Through no fault of his, his next owner unfortunately could no longer keep Nitro. He is handsome, really smart and curious—he’s interested in what’s going on around him and he wants to help. He weighs 67 lbs. and is strong but wants to please. Nitro LOVES belly rubs. His previous owner said he’s housebroken, is good with people, and enjoys walks. Nitro is very lovable and is a really good boy.  He would do best in a home with no other dogs because his vision isn’t the best and he gets defensive.  He seems to be ok with cats though.  If you would like to see for yourself what a good dog Nitro is, fill out an application for him today!

Our best estimate is that she’s about two years old. She weighs 36 lbs., tested negative for heartworms and is already spayed.
