Adoptable Dogs

Please note:

If a dog was brought to the shelter as a stray, we adhere to the following policy regarding returning the dog to a party claiming to own it.  We have the following policy regarding stray intakes:

The owner of such dog may reclaim by:
1. emailing houndhaveninc@aol.com within 5 days of the date the dog came to Houndhaven,
2. identifying the dog accurately,
3. providing proof of ownership,
4. promptly arranging a mutually agreed upon time to pickup the dog,
5. coming to pick up the dog at the scheduled time, and
6. signing a form acknowledging ownership and indemnifying Houndhaven in the event another party claims ownership.

BELLE, BABS, BRINN & BRYCE

PHOTOS COMING SOON!

Belle, Babs, Brinn & Bryce—four adorable little pups—have come to Houndhaven to look for happy homes. Belle, Babs & Brinn are females and are mostly black with a few hints of white on their chest and toes. Bryce is the only male pup and he is also black. They’re all litter mates. Mom was a golden retriever and dad was most likely a black lab. They are 9 weeks old. They will bring their adoptive families fun and laughter with their puppy antics, but their families will also need to have patience and understanding and time to train them as they grow so they can become confident, well-behaved adult dogs. If you’re up for the challenge of raising a pup, review our policies and complete an application.

LEOPOLD

PHOTO COMING SOON!

Leopold is such a handsome hunk. He’s a male yellow lab mix and is 82 lbs. of love. Leopold was adopted from animal control but returned because the family that adopted him said he escapes. We think it just shows how smart and clever he is. Leopold is neutered, up to date on vaccines, on monthly heartworm prevention and microchipped. He is in our young adult category and is about 1 ½ years old. Review our policies and complete an application to adopt Leopold.

BEAUTY

PHOTO COMING SOON!

The name Beauty is fitting for this very pretty girl. At 1 ½ years old she is in our young adult category but she has a lot of puppy playfulness in her. Beauty was adopted but turned in to animal control by her previous family when they moved. Beauty is a black lab mix and her whole 49 lb. body wiggles when she sees you. She has tested positive for heartworms but we will have her treated for that before she’s placed in a home. Beauty is already spayed. She wants her next home to be her forever home. A completed application starts the process to adopt lovely Beauty.

CARLISLE

Carlisle has gorgeous, soulful eyes that are hard to resist and he’s an excellent snuggler. He is a male black lab and was a stray found by animal control in northwest FL so we don’t have any background on him. But we do know that he’s a very good boy at Houndhaven and walks very nicely on a lead. Carlisle is in our young adult category which is 1-4 years old (our best estimate is that he’s around two). He weighs 59 lbs. We will have Carlisle neutered soon and he will be ready to go home.

SHELBY

Shelby is a cheerful female yellow lab who is in our young adult category (dogs 1-4 years of age).  We are estimating that she is about one year old.  She came to us from animal control who picked her up as a stray.  We don’t understand why anyone would allow this sweet girl to fend for herself.  Shelby has recently been spayed, has been brought up to date on vaccines, is on monthly heartworm prevention (she tested heartworm negative) and is microchipped.  Please consider giving this sweetheart a forever home.  She’d love to go on adventures with her very own family.

ABBY

If you are ever in need of a hug, Abby is your girl.  She loves to give hugs (she’s VERY gentle) and to get hugs in return.  She’s a young adult (approximately one year old) mixed breed and has a unique, beautiful brindle coat.  Abby was a stray in northwest FL.  She weighs about 44 lbs.  If you can give this loving girl the great home she deserves, review our policies and submit an application.

HUNTER

Our buddy Hunter is one brave pup.  He was a stray in NC where he was hit by a car.  When animal control could find no one there to help him, he was transported here to get his broken leg operated on and repaired and to find a home.  We’ve had the surgery done and he’s on the mend.  Despite what he’s been through, he’s a happy, friendly guy.  Hunter is a mixed-breed dog.  He has a black curly coat and looks like he may be part portuguese water dog.  He’s in our puppy category (estimate:  8 months old) and his current weight is just under 50 lbs.  Hunter can’t wait to complete his recovery so he can be the playful pup he was meant to be.  He also can’t wait to find a home of his own.

NORA

Black lab mix Nora is a love.  This sweet girl’s tail wags in big circles.  She’s gentle, calm and walks nicely on a leash.  Nora weighs about 57 lbs. and is estimated to be two years old (our young adult category).  We have brought her up to date on vaccines, and she is scheduled to be spayed soon.  She will be ready for a home shortly after that.  Nora was a stray picked up by animal control before she came to the shelter.  She deserves to live in a home where she is loved and pampered.  If you can give Nora that, complete and submit an application to adopt her.

WINCHESTER

Winchester is one of our most recent arrivals. He is a wonderful, mellow guy. He doesn’t pull on his leash, loves belly rubs and is just a sweetheart. He even loved his initial bath and nail clipping at Houndhaven. Winchester was a stray in northwest Florida and was picked up by animal control there. He weighs just under 57 lbs. He is in our adult category (approximately 6-7 years old) and is a black lab mix. Winchester will make someone the best snuggle buddy ever!

PIPER PEPPER

Piper Pepper has had several owners through no fault of her own (for example, one owner wanted to travel so she gave Piper up). Piper is a 6 year old female black lab mix in our adult category. She’s on the smaller side, weighing 48 lbs. Piper has lived with cats in the past. She’s a sweetheart, already spayed and current on vaccines. All Piper is asking for is a stable home with a family that will love her forever.  Is that too much to ask???
