LOST AND FOUND PETS

If you have lost your pet or found a lost pet, act quickly!  The first 24 hours can make all the difference in finding your pet or pet’s owner.

FIRST, if it is a Houndhaven dog, email us at houndhaveninc@aol.com or call 352-988-3372.

FOR LOST PETS THAT ARE MICROCHIPPED, CONTACT THE MICROCHIP COMPANY SO THAT THEY CAN PUT A LOST PET ALERT IN THE RECORD FOR YOUR PET.  FOR FOUND PETS, GO TO A LOCAL VET OR SHELTER AND HAVE THEM CHECK FOR A MICROCHIP.  CALL THE MICROCHIP COMPANY FOR THE NAME AND NUMBER OF THE REGISTERED OWNER.  IF NO REGISTERED OWNER, SEE IF YOU CAN TRACK IT THROUGH THE BUSINESS THAT IMPLANTED THE CHIP.

CALL YOUR COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES AND MAKE A REPORT.  Then go there daily to check for your pet—DO NOT COUNT ON THEM TO LOOK FOR YOU!!!!!

CONTACT AREA SHELTERS TO FILE A REPORT WITH THEM.

GOOGLE  “________ COUNTY, FL RESCUE GROUPS OR ANIMAL SHELTERS” TO FIND A LIST.

CONTACT LOCAL VETERINARIANS TO FILE A REPORT.

CONTACT YOUR NEIGHBORS, POSTMAN, GARBAGE MAN, OTHER DELIVERY PERSONS (IE, NEWSPAPER, UPS, FED EX) AND LOCAL LANDSCAPTERS TO SEE IF THEY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT A FOUND PET OR CAN KEEP THEIR EYES OPEN FOR A LOST PET.

PUT AN AD IN THE LOCAL PAPER.  MANY PAPERS WILL PRINT LOST/FOUND ADS FREE OF CHARGE.

PUT UP SIGNS WITHIN A 2 MILE RADIUS FROM WHERE THE PET WAS LOST OR FOUND AND AT BUSY INTERSECTIONS.  SIGNS SHOULD BE LARGE AND BRIGHT AND BRIEF.  WE SUGGEST “LOST DOG” WITH A PICTURE AND PHONE NUMBER,  OR IF YOU HAVE FOUND A DOG, JUST “FOUND DOG” WITH A PHONE NUMBER.  THE CALLER SHOULD BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THEIR DOG TO YOU..  POST AT VET CLINICS, DOG DAYCARES, SCHOOLS, GROCERY AND CONVENIENCE STORES, ETC.

POST PHOTOS AND INFORMATION WHERE THE PET WAS LAST SEEN OR WAS FOUND ON FACEBOOK, CRAIGSLIST, PINTEREST, ETC.

FOR LOST PETS, SEARCH HIDING PLACES LIKE UNDER SHEDS, DECKS, HOUSES, ETC.  TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBORS AND SEARCH THEIR PROPERTY IF PERMITTED.  PUT OUT FOOD AND WATER IN CASE THEY RETURN HOME FOR FOOD.  YOU CAN ALSO SET A HUMANE TRAP NEAR THE POINT OF ESCAPE.  YOU CAN USUALLY BORROW A TRAP FROM YOUR LOCAL ANIMAL CONTROL.  FOR FOUND PETS, BE SURE TO ASK FOR PROOF OF OWNERSHIP SUCH AS A PICTURE OR INFO THAT ONLY THE OWNER WOULD KNOW.
