Bentley is the latest dog who is benefitting from our Houndhaven Helps project. He was found as a stray by Halifax Humane Society when he was 8 months old. His new family fell in love with his sweet disposition and was told his terrible condition was due to mange. After months of treating him for mange with no improvement, their vet referred them to wonderful Dr. Schwassman at Veterinary Dermatology Center in Maitland.
She quickly identified his condition as a skin infection, ear infection and eye infection due to terrible allergies. His new parents could afford the maintenance medicines that he needed, but couldn’t afford to do the allergy testing. Dr. Schwassman was happy to be able to call on Houndhaven for help. She personally made a donation to Bentley’s treatment, and we picked up half of the remaining balance for the allergy testing.
Bentley will soon start on a special allergy shot protocol to desensitize him to all of the things the test indicates are allergies for him. We hope that the shots, together with shampoos, eye drops, ear medicines and topical treatments, will have sweet Bentley feeling better soon. Bentley’s new parents are committed to doing all his treatments and to driving him back and forth from their home in Port Orange for followups, so Bentley now has a great team onboard to help him. We will keep you informed of his progress!
